The superb final match between the belgian champions shifted on Eddy Merckx's side during the fifth set. Trailing 1-9 to a dazzling Frédéric Caudron, Merckx made no mistake and claimed the title 5 innings later with a score of 15-10. He is crowned European Champion while still holding the World Champion title. Only Raymond Ceulemans and Torbjörn Blomdahl were able to achieve this before him.
A massive audience was present from day one : five hundred people were watching the tension-filled final. The internet was not to be forgotten with more than 20000 visitors following the event online, a first for a 3 Cushion event. The Kozoom team presented new features for the occasion like live scoring, photo galleries and a video magazine. A media coverage who lived up to a high quality event.
